Beaded Knitted Purses
My beaded purses are knitted on 3/o needles with Lizbeth 100% Egyptian Cotton, size 20, thread and size 11 seed beads. The frames are replicas of actual Victorian purse frames. You will find only a couple of patterns that have been followed exactly as Hazel has developed her own patterns with her own designs keeping within the Victorian Style. She has researched techniques, styles, and materials from such publications as “The Self-instructor in silk Knitting, Crocheting and Embroidery” published by Belding Bros. And Co. in 1887; “Emma post Barbour's New Bead Book” published by National Trading Co. Chicago, Ill., 1924.
Each of these small purses (3” X 5”) takes approximately 2,000 seed beads (size 11); each one strung on a thread and pushed into place with each stitch as it is knitted.
